After Genesis.. there was work...

Work... hmm... not a nice word... maybe something that shouldn´t even be included; it contrasts the rest of this blog...

BUT - it´s part.. actually, a very big part.. of my year in BCN.. it´s part of my life.. and this is my blog anyway... it´s my Birthday today too... so get off my back!

So today i started work.. my first experience of starting working in Barcelona. So i wake up bright and early with the bright morning light already seeping through the window which i had left completely open (it´s the closest, yet safest way one can get to sleeping under the stars, which i love)... some Spanish news... weather report (all of Spain´s experiencing bad weather, except for BCN)...

I think of how i´d be spending my such a special day had i not been here... In the very typical (yet very welcome) yearly manner, I´d be preparing to meet G for a day together, probably at the beach (which´d be hopefully empty..or almost), a sign of a storm to come (but we´d totally ignore that, like there wasnt anything else that was important beyond a metre radius), a nice beachy meal (pizza, paella,...), present-giving time (at least i had that before i left.. and in just as nice a setting), cake cutting and some romantic fine dining to look forward to (luckily had this too).

The scent of freshly made coffee reached (ha alcado) my nasal sense and beckons me to stop lazying about... so i´m out of bed.. made breakfast and downed my coffee... Showered and all.. well.. suited up.. So all ready in 45 mins. It´s 8.45. That´d be ideal in Malta. The standard is to account for the 15 mins you need to get to work (not including traffic and parking). However.. work´s a 5 min walk away.. so shit.. we´re ready early.. and the only traffic stopping us from getting to work on time is the swarm of preschool children and their parents.

Finally there... at work... inside a huge mall - L´Illa (pronounced Lija or La Ija to make it more pronounceable). There´s were we met our team mates.. in my case, Javier (pronounced Havi), Jose (pron. Hose), Ingrid (pron. ... well.. ingrid), and my French boss (Fred, or Fredu as I called him). They all looked like very likable individuals - and as the days go by i confirm this.

After a day of drinking strong coffee (nothing like the mild gallons of tea i am used to at my previous job) in the 2 ´obligatory´ coffee breaks at 10am and 4pm and personal coffee breaks at EURO 0.30 each, eating my first paella in BCN (yes paella... yes at the canteen... i might as well just say it outright.. lunch is something to look forward to here.. besides being really cheap.. you´ve got a great choice.. interesting food... and your stomach is your only limitation... first course, 2nd course, dessert, fruit and coffee.. yes another one), and reading spanish system manuals to start integrating my brain on the systems...

Took a look around at PC City (yes that´s in the same building too) and went home...

The rest´s nothing to write home about.. literally... :)

Oh.. the general mood was to stay home and relax... so i bought some pretty fine pasti for my birthday.. and cheered everyone up... well that pasta was like heaven... and short vision of it...

Heh for this post i only expected to write a few lines.. but i guess i´m getting influenced by this book i´m reading (thanks G), Merde actually (sequel to A year in the Merde). Though i hope it won´t be the case (i.e. living in shit), I identify with the author who has the main role in the book - an English entrepreneur who ventures in French territory - very funny and goes into excruciating detail on everything he notices in the typical English humouristical way...

So my version should be a Maltese guy going on an internship to Spain, in a typical Maltese manner.. i.e. everything sentence starting with ´Haq...´ and ending with some heavenly figure´s name...

heh we´ll see about that...
